There's a place in CAP for everyone. For cadets, you must be at least 12 years old and not yet 19. For adult members, you don't have to be a pilot or have any military experience. CAP needs teachers, lawyers, IT professionals, chaplains, marketing experts, human resources professionals, and more. Whatever your background or experience, there's a place for you in CAP.
For more information about becoming a member of Civil Air Patrol, visit the CAP national website to read frequently asked questions and learn about the requirements for membership.
Adults are asked to visit the squadron of their choice and attend three meetings before completing a membership application. If there is more than one squadron near you, it's a good idea to visit both since each squadron is a little different in terms of size and activities.
Youth age 12-18 usually complete an orientation class before becoming members. Check with the squadron of your choice for more information. Contact information is found in the national squadron locator.
